Jerry Wayne Jackson (1947-2016)

Grand Saline – Jerry Wayne Jackson was born January 20, 1947 in Terrell Texas and passed away from this life November 30, 2016 in Bertram, Texas at the age of 69 after a ten month battle with cancer. He is survived by his daughter Rachel Jackson Smith, son-in-law Gaylon Smith, grandson Aston Smith, and granddaughter Abby Smith of Liberty Hill, Texas. He is also survived by his brother Colon Ray Jackson of Ormond Beach, Florida as well a niece and nephew and three cousins.. Jerry is also survived by his self adopted god mother, Reba Stone of Canton. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Karen Lowe Jackson, his mother Kathryn Jackson and father H.C. (Jack) Jackson.
Jerry graduated from Grand Saline High School in 1967 where he had the distinction of lettering in baseball, football, basketball and track his freshman through senior year. Upon graduation from high school he signed and played baseball in the minor leagues with the San Francisco Giants. After 3 years with the Giants he attended and graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelors degree in Physical Education. Upon graduation he became a baseball and football coach and teacher at Harlingen High School in Harlingen, Texas. After a few years of coaching and teaching Jerry became a successful regional sales representative for Panther Chemical Company in Dallas, Texas.
In recent years Jerry worked as a Supervisor for an Austin Texas Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facility. The last couple of years, prior to his cancer, Jerry owned and operated a Gold and Silver buying and selling business.
Jerry enjoyed sports, especially college football, and professional baseball. He also enjoyed collecting guns.
A memorial service for Jerry Wayne Jackson will be held at Main Street Baptist Church on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 2:00 PM in Grand Saline. In lieu of flowers, donations to First Baptist Church of Astor Florida in memory of Jerry are suggested. 24731 Ann St., Astor, FL 32102
