VZC District Attorney Tonda Curry Seeks Re-election

CANTON--Criminal District Attorney Tonda Curry announced today that she will seek a second term in office.
“Representing the people of the State of Texas and Van Zandt County is the greatest honor of my life,” Curry said. “I am asking for the privilege of continuing to join with our law enforcement agencies to stand tough against crime in our county.”
Curry, a Republican, was first sworn in as Criminal District Attorney January 1, 2019. Curry is certified as a specialist in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, an accomplishment attained by only one percent of Texas lawyers.
Curry said there are many accomplishments by her office that she is proud of, but none more than keeping case loads and dockets moving in the unprecedented time of COVID. “When I took office I had a plan for dealing with the multitude of cases that was pending both within the office and on court dockets. We worked that plan aggressively and made great progress the first year of my term,” Curry said. She continued, “Then, of course, we all entered the unknown of COVID, but we adjusted, we thought outside the box, and we persisted. Working together with our judges we came through the pandemic with even fewer cases pending. Now we are working hard, having those jury trials we couldn’t have last year.” Curry added, “Of couse none of that could have happened without my staff. I can’t say enough about their dedication.”
Curry has been licensed to practice law in Texas for thirty-two years. She previously served as an Assitant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, an Assistant District Attorney in Smith and Van Zandt Counties, as well as the leader of an East Texas criminal law firm.
Curry currently serves as Vice President of the Board of the Childrens’ Advocacy Center of Van Zandt. She is also a founding member of Republican Women of Van Zandt, a Texas Federation of Republican Women affiliate club.
